Have You Gotten Sweaty Lately?
I'm always looking for ways to boost my workout and this morning, while reading my newspaper, I came across this great observation from local columnist Mark Patinkin. He wrote, "If I've learned anything about sports, it's that there's a direct relationship between how much you sweat and how much you win."
I love that.
It's really easy sometimes to just sort of coast through my workout -- until it dawns on me that I'm not really making any progress: My stamina's not improving, my muscles aren't more defined, etc. Bottom line? If you want to see steady, consistent improvement, you've got to put forth steady, consistent effort.
It's a principle I can apply to many areas of my life beyond the gym. Whether it's being more organized, keeping my house tolerably clean, seeking new work or making time for friends, it all takes effort. And, as with most things, the results you get are a direct reflection of the effort you give.
Not exactly an earth-shattering new observation, but one that I know I need to be reminded of often.
So thanks, Mark, for the reminder.
yeah, I've been coasting a bit lately, too. I try to remember to do intervals, like picking up the pace on the gauntlet, but it can be hard to motivate yourself, especially when tired/hungry.

Oh, I had such great plans for my workouts this week.
Then, at 2:00 this morning, I came down with a cold.
Grrrrrr!
Sweat a little for me this week, would you? I promise to return the favor, should you need it, lol!

I think it's only natural to get into a rut occasionally, Leslie. And you're right -- it's hard to push when you're tired and hungry.
Alyssa, I hope you're feeling better soon. Maybe fever sweats count?
