A Handy New Use For My iPod
I love this time of year. There's a hint of fall in the air, stores are running huge back-to-school sales and the kids are counting the days until school starts...not really, but hey, it's my fantasy. I'll admit I feel a little left out; summer's end always makes me long for a fresh start.
While I don't have time to enroll in any official classes, I've just discovered -- courtesy of the September 2008 issue of O Magazine -- that I can monitor certain courses at colleges across the country via Podcast or Webcast.
How cool is that?
Maybe you more technically-savvy types already knew about this, but it was news to me. Yesterday, as I looked through the online course offerings at some of the schools, I was amazed at the possibilities...philosophy, astronomy, psychology. You don't get course credit, of course, but then again, you don't have to do any of the work either. All you have to do is listen and absorb...whenever you have the time. No exams! No term papers!
So, I'll be taking the University of California at Berkeley's "Intro to Human Nutrition" along with me on my walks this week. It'll be a great refresher of everything Melissa Kirdzik, my Shape dietitian, taught me last year and maybe a chance to learn something new, too.
And who knows? Maybe next week I'll try MIT's Physics course.
Or not.
I love that about universities... you can go and sit in on any class and you can learn everything the course has to offer. No, you won't get a credit for it, but if you just want to learn something new then its a great opportunity!
