Odd Things People Do With Their Dogs
It's no secret that I adore my golden retriever, Colby, but I have to admit that I'm still amazed at what some dog owners will do. This morning, my local paper carried a front-page story about a new class called Doga (Read about a similar class here -- please, please check out the Doga Poses page and tell me if that first photo doesn't crack you up), which has dog owners and their dogs doing yoga together.
I almost spit out my coffee at the very thought of trying to get Colby to strike a pose.
He's kind of a big doofus -- it's part of his charm -- and he's worked really hard to master sit, lay, stay and give me your paw. Yoga poses seem above and beyond the call of duty.
Still, I'm all for anything that gets people moving. But for us? I think we'll stick to long
walks and runs on the beach. Besides, look at that smile. I think he's already in touch with his inner peace.
OK, 'fess up dog owners -- ever tried to make your dog part of your workout?
On Wednesday, I'll be guest blogging about food lessons I learned from my dog over at Champion of My Heart, a dog training blog. Roxanne Hawn will be here talking about emotional eating.
Hehe thats hilarious.
I work in an alternative medicine veterinary clinic, so you can only imagine the way these people treat their pets- these dogs come to get acupuncture and chiropractic done, and nearly all of them are on special homemade food diets and for our clients the world basically revolves around their pets. Its really sweet.

tried to start DOGA here in austin a while ago (was gonna fly to nyc to train with the woman who started it) and could NOT find a place which would let me teach it.

I tried to make a link, but it didn't work. HOWEVER, I did a story for Reader's Digest that ran in January 2008 about how your dog makes a way better workout partner than any person you know. It's a very tiny piece, but the research indeed showed the dogs bring all the benefits of a human companion without any of the negative stuff.
Lilly likes to hang out while I workout and do yoga, etc. Recently, she decided to crawl up and lay on my stomach (belly to belly) while I did crunches on the ball. It was very sweet, and very hard.

Sagan, I bet you see plenty of chuckly-worthy stuff in your line of work.
Miz, I'm picturing you doing yoga with your bull mastiff and it's just making me giggle.
Roxanne, I bet Lilly adds great resistance to your ab crunches.
